He’s #28 (until he’s #29)

Tottenham Hotspur revealed their new home and away kits for this coming season, and with it comes another key piece of kit-related information — new midfield signing Tanguy Ndombele’s shirt number. The French international and Moussa Sissoko best buddy will wear No. 28 this season.

Ndombele has a history with that number. He wore #28 as a player at Lyon both of the past two seasons, though strangely Transfermarkt also says that at the same time he also wore #8, #10, and #14, probably depending on the competition. He wore #22 while playing at Amiens.

The #28 kit is a special one to Spurs fans, as that particular number has been held by such Tottenham legends as Tom Carroll, Kyle Walker, Alan Hutton, Jermain Jenas, and Matthew Etherington. Those are some big shoes for Tanguy to fill, but I’m confident that he can make every supporter forget about Carroll’s magical four seasons wearing that kit. All of the other numbers he has worn in the past are currently in use by Paulo Gazzaniga (#22), Harry Winks (#8), Harry Kane (#10, you’re not getting that one, Tanguy), and #14 (Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, wait until he’s sold).

Custom shirts are now available for purchase at the Tottenham Hotspur online store for the low, low price of $117, shipping extra. Spurs haven’t posted their full list of kit numbers but if you want that sexy new Ndombele kit, you can go forth and order with confidence.
