Victor Wanyama is a long-time favorite of Mauricio Pochettino, having played for him while at both Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur, but if reports are any indication his time at Spurs and in the Premier League might be coming to an end.

According to reports coming out of Turkey (via Sport Witness), Wanyama is one of two defensive midfield targets by Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray, along with Chelsea’s Tiemoue Bakayoko.

When fit, Wanyama has been a very good defensive midfield option for Pochettino’s system at Spurs. The problem is he’s rarely been fit, and has been dealing with knee and other injuries for most of his time at Spurs. Now 28, it’s hard to see how Big Vic fits into any long term plan at Tottenham, especially after Spurs made two central midfield signings this summer in Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso. Neither of those players are defensive midfielders, but Eric Dier is still on the squad, and Harry Winks is emerging as another option for the deepest lying midfielder in Pochettino’s system.

It’s not clear whether any potential move would be a permanent move or a loan, but it’s worth noting that Fanatik is saying Chelsea are demanding a €1.5m loan move for Bakayoko. Spurs, I would imagine, would rather sell.

There are still a couple of weeks left in the European transfer window so expect a couple Spurs players like Wanyama (and sob Christian Eriksen) to continue to be linked away from the club until it closes.
