It appears to be send-the-kids-out-on-loan day at Tottenham Hotspur! Left sided midfielder/emergency fullback Anthony Georgiou is the latest recipient of this flood of late transfer action — Spurs have announced on social media that Georgiou has extended his contract at the club for another year and is also heading to Ipswich Town on loan.
@_Ant_georgiou has signed a new contract with the Club until 2021.

He has now joined League One side @IpswichTown on loan until January.
All the best, Anthony! #THFC ⚪️ #COYS pic.twitter.com/9uSASVEuBq
Georgiou has been hanging around the fringes of Tottenham’s first team for what feels like a decade now, but he’s only 22. However, he’s managed to get some first team action in the past few years, including a Champions League cameo against APOEL a couple of seasons ago. That was significant, as Georgiou comes from a Cypriot heritage. Georgiou also served as Tottenham’s only actual left back during their summer preseason tour to Asia as Ben Davies recovered from injury and Danny Rose looked for a new club. He has not, however, made his Premier League debut.
There doesn’t appear to be a market for Anthony right now, so I guess a quick one-season contract extension and a loan to a League One club makes the most sense. If he plays well, maybe a club at that level might come in for him next summer. Here’s hoping — despite actually getting first team minutes for the club there doesn’t really seem to be a path to the starting XI or the bench for him unless there’s a SERIOUS injury crisis.
Good luck to him!
