Christian Eriksen emerging as potential late target for PSG

Though it would depend on the future of Neymar.

The closer we get to the close of the European transfer window, the less likely the odds are that Christian Eriksen gets his desired move to Spain. But that doesn’t mean that he won’t still depart the club. Le Parisien (via Sport Witness) is reporting that Tottenham Hotspur’s great Dane is now a target of PSG Director of Football Leonardo.

However, Paulo Dybala — remember him? — is also a reported target for the French giants, and neither move is possible without first taking care of the whole Neymar situation. The sale or loan of Neymar to Barcelona would free up some significant funds for a late transfer bid, but it’s unlikely that PSG would sanction a move for both of them.

Dybala would seem the more obvious target for PSG — there was reporting that the Dybala to Spurs transfer collapsed in part because PSG promised Juventus they’d make a bid for him after the English window closed — but there’s also recognition that Spurs are more than willing to sell Eriksen this week to avoid losing him for free next summer. In fact, PSG buying Eriksen could even be considered doing them a favor, as it doesn’t look like he has any interest in signing a contract extension at Spurs, regardless of the outcome. Le Parisien suggests Spurs would be willing to ship Eriksen off for between €50-70m.

France isn’t Spain, which is where Eriksen had his little Danish heart set, and there’s a whole lot of dominoes that would need to topple before this rumor would become something concrete. Get ready for a wild next few days, and start tracking the Neymar rumors if you haven’t already.
