Ever since Tottenham Hotspur promoted to the top flight of English women’s football, Spurs fans have been asking whether any of Spurs Women’s matches would be available to watch this season. Today, we have an answer, and it’s HUGE! The FA announced today the creation of a new online platform that will stream every Women’s Super League match and select FA Women’s Championship matches online... for free!

And it’s available world-wide!

The FA Player will feature the following content, according to its release:

The FA Player will show all 132 Barclays FA Women’s Super League games live* plus one live FA Women’s Championship match per round. In addition there will be highlights, top goals, previews, features and archive games available from across the broader women’s domestic and international game including exclusive England Lionesses content. *(live BT Sport games will be available via audio only in the UK)

And for the grand total price of FREE, it’s pretty hard to beat.

There are a couple of questions left to answer, specifically what they mean by “archive games” and whether fans will be able to watch matches on delay if they can’t get to their computer screen live. But those are relatively minor concerns — it’s friggin’ fantastic that the FA is doing this.

This is a wonderful time for fans of women’s football. This summer’s World Cup was an exceptional spectacle and has raised the profile of women’s soccer world-wide. It makes sense, with more fans interested in English top flight women’s football, to make it easy and free for new supporters to be able to watch their chosen club team.

New users will need to register for FA Player after September 2, but then can stream live matches when they happen. It will be available via browser or app on iOS and Google Play.
