Christian Eriksen wants a move to Spain. He’d prefer a move to Madrid. According to the Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have had negotiations with a Spanish club from Madrid over his transfer. But it’s not Real Madrid — it’s Atletico.
The report states that Spurs have had talks with Atletico Madrid about potentially shipping Eriksen off to La Liga before the close of the European window, but that those discussions took place at or near the same time that they were negotiating for the transfer of Kieran Trippier.
In that sense, there isn’t a whole lot of HERE here — the report doesn’t say that a move to Atletico is anywhere close or even likely, just that the parties sounded it out as a possibility. However, the Telegraph does say that they could potentially revive their interest after the English window closes Thursday at 10 pm BST.
Honestly, I’m not sure how Atletico could afford a transfer like Eriksen, for whom Spurs are hoping to secure a £50m transfer fee, after signing Joao Felix for over £100m this summer already, but whatever. Atletico are also linked with James Rodriguez, and weirder things have happened.
Maybe Eriksen and Trippier can be roommates.
