The FIFA year end award nominations continue to trickle out during this, the first international break of the season. Earlier we saw Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino be named one of three finalists for the The Best Head Coach award, along with Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.
Today, the shortlist for FIFA FIFPRO World XI was released, and three Tottenham players made the cut — Christian Eriksen in the midfield category, along with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min in the forward category.

Kane and Eriksen are somewhat obvious picks for a World XI, but I’m pleased as punch to see Sonny as one of the nominees. After a season that saw him total 20 goals and 10 assists in all competitions, it’s safe to say that he’s made “the leap” that we were all hoping for the past couple of seasons. It’s wonderful that he’s finally getting recognized as one of the top players in the world, because he is.
The finalists for the World XI will be announced at The Best Awards ceremony on September 23, held in Milan.
