Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of announcing a new midfield signing. According to Simon Stone of the BBC, 21-year old central midfielder Gedson Fernades is in London completing a medical, and is expected to sign with Spurs on an 18 month loan.
Gedson Fernandes having @SpursOfficial medical. Will become Jose Mourinho's first signing.

As we said before, this isn’t the most overwhelming signing we’ll see under Mourinho. Fernandes has limited first team experience, but he’s represented by Mourinho ally Jorge Mendes and is being signed almost entirely on his potential as opposed to anything he’s actually done on the pitch. However, there’s no transfer fee involved here, and he’s probably not on very high wages so there’s not a whole lot to lose.
Reports have stated that there is a non-mandatory option to purchase Fernades at the end of the 2020-21 season for around €50m, which seems like a lot, but if he’s as good as what Spurs seem to think he could be it might be worth it. Otherwise he can go back to Benfica and Spurs haven’t really lost anything.
We’re not sure when the official announcement will happen, but it’s probably coming pretty soon.
