A tough loss to Liverpool and a convincing enough win over Middlesbrough have Tottenham Hotspur trending in the right direction. The congested holiday schedule did Spurs no favors, with poor results and injuries piling up over the past month. As a result, the team sits nine points back of fourth place with a tough hill to climb.

While the on-pitch performances are still being sorted out, so too are the transfers. Christian Eriksen’s days seem almost over, but he could feature on Saturday with the papers not yet signed. On the other side, young Gedson Fernandes is set to travel with the club and could perhaps make his Tottenham debut.

Watford are in the midst of a relegation battle, but last time these two sides met, the Hornets were almost able to take all three points. Instead, Spurs were fortunate to come away with a draw in a typical poor performance against a lower side. Since then, Watford have improved, meaning the visitors could be in trouble yet again.

It has been said for months now, but every match is becoming more and more important. Top four seems unlikely at this point, but it is definitely possible if Tottenham can wake up from this year-long funk in the Premier League and start stringing together some positive results. Last weekend showed some signs of life; whether or not it carries over to this match will be a big indicator of what is to come.

Match thread rules

The match thread rules are the same as always. To any visitors coming here for the first time, welcome! We’re glad you’re here! Wipe your feet, mind the gap, and be sure to check out the other pages at this outstanding site. While you’re here, though, we have a few rules and regulations:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They’re bad and they get us in trouble. Violators will be warned or banned.
  • We have rules against “relentless negativity.” Nobody likes a Negative Nancy. Don’t knee-jerk and post outlandish or hurtful things just because you’re frustrated.
  • Along those lines, outright abuse of players or match officials is also not allowed. It’s fine to say “wow, that was a really bad call,” but it’s NOT okay to direct copious amounts of abuse in the direction of said official over a call you did not like.
  • Treat other people in the match thread the way you would want someone else to treat your grandmother. Be nice. Observe Wheaton’s Law. This is a community of fans, not an un-moderated message board.
  • NO SPIDERS!!
  • Finally, while we don’t have a rule against profanity, please try and keep the naughty words in check. Also, language that is sexist, racist, or homophobic in nature will be swiftly deleted and you will be immediately banned. This is an open, supportive community.

Have fun, and COYS!
