Though it didn’t seem like it a few months ago, Tottenham Hotspur actually have a glut of goalkeepers right now, though not all of them are ready for action in Spurs’ first team. In the academy, keepers Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman have been duking it out for years now as they push each other to get better. Now, Austin is getting a loan to see how he does in actual first team football.
Today, Tottenham announced that Austin is heading to Denmark on loan to Viborg for the rest of the season.
Brandon Austin has joined Danish side Viborg FF on loan until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

Sending Austin out on loan continues the about-face that Spurs have had regarding loaning players since Jose Mourinho took charge. Mauricio Pochettino rarely sent players on loan that he wanted to keep around, sometimes to their developmental hindrance, although his position softened somewhat towards the end of his Spurs tenure. Mourinho has no such hesitation, and this seems like a good opportunity to see if Austin has what it takes to succeed in a first team.
I don’t know anything about Viborg or know if he’ll get a lot of minutes, but hopefully he can make an impression.
