Sky: Tottenham make unsuccessful approach for Odion Ighalo

The former Watford man isn’t interested in a loan in North London.

Never let it be said that Spurs aren’t trying! After seeing their loan for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud evaporate and backing off from Real Sociedad’s Willian Jose, Tottenham Hotspur are still trying to sign a backup striker with what remains of the January transfer window.

Unfortunately, it’s still not going well.

Sky Sports is reporting now that Spurs have had a loan offer knocked back for Odion Ighalo. Now playing in the Chinese Super League with Shanghai Shenhua, you might remember Ighalo when he was with Watford a few years ago. He’s been tearing up the net in China but apparently fancies a return to the Premier League with the Chinese soccer bubble starting to burst.

Unfortunately, that return won’t be with Tottenham Hotspur, as Sky are saying that if he DOES return it’ll be elsewhere — Manchester United are apparently showing interest in him as are a couple other unnamed Premier League clubs.

We’re nearing the bottom of the barrel and the end of the line. Is there a Rafael van der Vaart hiding somewhere, ready for a dramatic late transfer to Spurs? Probably not, but Daniel Levy’s clearly turning over all the rocks he can find.
