Excellent news!

Great news for Tottenham Hotspur Women this morning! The club announced on their website and on social media that one of their (many) new signings this summer, forward Kit Graham, has signed a new contract with the club that will keep her in lilywhite until the end of the 2021 season.

Graham was signed — somewhat controversially at the time — on a free transfer from second division FA Women’s Championship side Charlton Athletic this summer and has become one of Tottenham’s best offensive weapons in their first season in the English women’s top flight this season. She’s currently Spurs’ joint-third top goal scorer in the league this season, netting four times and once more in the Continental Cup.

It’s difficult to get any information on contracts and wages on WSL players because usually the only real information comes directly from the clubs, who probably aren’t sharing that info. In retrospect, it seems clear that Graham’s original contract was for this season only — which makes a certain sense for a player signed on a free transfer from a Championship club — and she’s being rewarded for her good play this year.

Spurs have a long way to go to challenge with the likes of Manchester City (whom they lost to 4-1 at the Hive on Sunday), Arsenal, or Chelsea at the top of the table, but locking down players like Graham and trying to cement themselves as a mid-table side would be fantastic. And maybe they can get the reputation of being a club with massive ambitions as well.
