Tottenham drawn away to Stoke City in Carabao Cup quarterfinals

A great draw!

Tottenham Hotspur have only just finished qualifying for the Europa League with a thumping 7-2 win over Maccabi Haifa, but there’s another competition going on too. The draw for the next round of the Carabao Cup just finished and Tottenham ended up with a great draw in the quarterfinals, playing Stoke City away.

This is almost the best possible draw that Tottenham could’ve had at this stage of the competition. Stoke are a Championship club, and along with Brentford were the only two non-Premier League clubs left in the competition. Playing away isn’t super great, but with no fans in the stadiums the effects of away matches is somewhat minimized. Play a good match and Spurs should have a very good chance of moving on to the semifinals.

And there’s more good news, because here’s the rest of the draw:

Arsenal vs. Manchester City means, obviously, that one of them won’t be moving on to the semis, and Everton vs. Manchester United is another tasty matchup. You almost couldn’t ask for a better setup for Spurs to make a run to a cup final.

It’s not a done deal by any means, but this is a heck of a draw for Spurs.
