Today is the final day of the domestic transfer window and Tottenham Hotspur are trying to get one last signing in before it slams shut.

David Ornstein of The Athletic is saying Spurs and Swansea City are locked in negotiations for 22-year-old center back Joe Rodon.

With just over three hours to go, the clubs are a few million apart, but it’s nothing insurmountable. Swansea want to maximize the profit they get on the Welsh International, which is completely understandable. The Championship side initially wanted £18m as of last week so to see the clubs inching toward a middle ground is promising.

Rodon is well regarded both at the club level and is just breaking into the international world, having made four appearances with Wales. Given that Gareth Bale and Ben Davies are at Tottenham, Rodon would presumably have little trouble adjusting to a new club.

Rodon’s numbers are solid and still has room to grow. While this wouldn’t be the big splash signing everyone was hoping for with Milan Škriniar, it would add some vital depth behind Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld and Japhet Tanganga. There will be plenty of minutes to go around given Spurs are still in four competitions. Rodon probably wouldn’t get minutes right away as he adjusts from the Championsihp to the Premier League, but having that fifth center back should ease everyone’s mind when it comes to depth.

The domestic window closes at Noon ET.
