The cat was already out of the bag, thanks to Benfica jumping the gun, but Tottenham Hotspur still managed to have some fun with the announcement of their newest signing, striker Carlos Vinicius, who joins Spurs on a one year loan with an option to purchase next summer. He will wear the #45 shirt.

Prefacing the actual announcement tweet, the club had a good laugh at themselves over the very idea that they’d sign a striker by posting a hilarious video that involved a guest appearance from “Clippy” from Microsoft Office, referencing that it hadn’t signed a striker since Vincent Janssen Fernando Llorente.

Self-effacing humor has been the tone of the summer transfer window for Spurs. The comms team posted another funny video ahead of the announcement of Matt Doherty, poking fun at his past pro-Arsenal tweets from his personal account, and there have been other examples of the club not taking itself particularly seriously. It’s a change in tone from past windows under Mauricio Pochettino; I don’t remember one this particularly clever since perhaps the announcement video of Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.
We know you already celebrated this signing last night and this morning, but... oh fine, go ahead, GIF PARTY.
