Dele Alli’s transfer situation is likely going to dominate Tottenham Hotspur’s January transfer window with regards to rumors and news stories, but there are potentially a few other players who could be headed for the exit door.
It’s safe to say that the 18-month loan for Gedson Fernandes didn’t work out exactly as everyone hoped. After getting some minutes at the end of the 2019-20 season, Gedson has slowly slid down the pecking order in midfield, to the point where he was not registered for the Europa League and hasn’t seen any action at all this season except for 63 minutes in the League Cup win over Chelsea in September.
Now it looks like his loan might be blessedly cut short. Dan Kilpatrick, writing in the Standard, says that the club is expecting to terminate Gedson’s loan deal early and bring him back to Portugal, with O Jogo (via Sport Witness) saying that negotiations are already underway. Gedson never seemed to make much sense in this Spurs side, and while it’s too bad he wasn’t better for Spurs he always did seem like a lottery pick that just didn’t pan out.
Third-choice keeper Paulo Gazzaniga and left back Danny Rose are other players that Spurs will be looking to offload next month.
Elsewhere, Kilpatrick throws a bit of a bomb at the end, suggesting that 34-year old Real Madrid central defender Sergio Ramos is on Spurs’ radar for a summer move, noting that the player is out of contract at the end of the current season. That’s far enough away that I’m not going to worry about this at all, but it doesn’t potentially signing an out-of-contract 34-year old superstar on the downswing seem like a perfect Jose Mourinho player rumor?
