Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg nominated for November Premier League Player of the Month

He’s probably not going to win, but it’s still cool.

Tottenham Hotspur defensive midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has had a pretty darned good start to his Spurs career. Signed this summer from Southampton, the former Saints captain has been a revelation for Tottenham in the center of the pitch and has quickly become one of the first names on Jose Mourinho’s team sheet.

But still, considering the defensive midfield position isn’t exactly one of the more glamorous ones, and considering Højbjerg’s contributions have been mostly in the background and doesn’t include flashy stats like “goals” and “assists,” it’s a pleasant surprise to find out this morning that he’s been nominated for the EA Sports FIFA 21 Premier League Player of the Month for November.

That’s probably the high water mark for this news, because as good as Højbjerg has been, he’s probably not going to win the award. The other nominees are Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Jack Chilwell (Chelsea), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton), and Angelo Ogbonna (West Ham). Basically, I’d be shocked if anyone other than Grealish (or maaaaaaaaaybe Bruno) takes home this award when it’s all said and done. And really, who could argue that Grealish doesn’t deserve to win it? Dude’s been amazing and I wish we’d signed him.

Still, you know what to do. Head to the Player of the Month website and mash the VOTE button for Pierre. It is your civic duty.
