I mean, what is there to say, really? Tottenham Hotspur went to Germany down a goal after the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 match against RB Leipzig. Sure, they had an injury decimated squad and are currently on a four match streak without a win, but could they pull together a good performance in Leipzig and turn around their season?
[NARRATOR VOICE]: They didn’t.
Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer scored after ten minutes, again after 20, and Tottenham farted their way out of the competition, losing the match 3-0 and the series 4-0. Spurs looked outmatched from the opening kick, and Jose Mourinho didn’t even make a substitution until the 80th minute, which might not have been him making a point but sure felt like it. Spurs crashed out of the Champions League in the most listless and uninspiring way possible, and it sure doesn’t look like they’re going to be making it back to the competition next season.
It was one of the worst performances I’ve seen Tottenham play in my time as a fan, and I just saw them get smacked by Burnley last weekend. Even so, there are a couple of things we can learn from this match.
1. Tottenham Hotspur isn’t very good
That’s it. That’s the whole section.
2. Wash your hands, COVID-19 is no joke
Seriously, be careful kids, practice social distancing and proper hygiene, this coronavirus thing is starting to get scary. Be safe.
