Carty Free Article Bracket: Row Z Regional first round

We’re skipping around the bracket today, because why the heck not!

NCAA Basketball: Final Four-City Scenes Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

We’re continuing the first round of the Cartilage Free Captain Best Article Bracket, only today we’re skipping to the bottom half of another region! Why? Because I’m writing the damn article and I said so, that’s why.

Again, the polls will be open for days, so there’s no immediate hurry, but please re-read the old articles and enjoy them. Hopefully this can serve as an effective distraction from ~WORLD EVENTS~.

Row Z Regional

FIRST ROUND

#6 — In appreciation of Erik Lamela, Tottenham’s do-everything attacker (Sean)

When Sean told me he was working on an article about Erik Lamela, I wasn’t expecting 3200 words on his evolution as a Tottenham player up to that point, including the highs and lows. But that’s what he delivered, and it’s fantastic.

#11 — Good things are happening to Tottenham Hotspur, and here’s how to cope with it (Dustin)

How do you cope with success when you’re a fan of a club that hasn’t experienced it in forever? Humor helps. This is one of my favorite personal articles of all time, from 2016.

#3 — How to talk to your kids about Dele Alli & Eric Dier (Skipjack)

One of the best examples of a “Skipjack special” article, written in the middle of the Dele-Dier love-in.

#14 — How both AVB and Tim Sherwood failed Tottenham Hotspur (Michael Caley)

The end of the AVB era was disastrous, and Michael Caley went into great detail, complete with graphs and statistics, to help explain why.

#7 — Introducing the Tottenham Hotspur Clone League (Dustin)

Another international break special project, this involved a lot of futzing with the FM19 database and is highlighted by the absolutely spectacular masthead crowdsourced team names. I still giggle at “Unathletic Bilbao.”

#10 — Tactical Analysis: Breaking down Arsenal’s best goals this season (Ben Daniels)

Another fantastic article from our first Short Fuse takeover. The premise relies on a single, repeated joke — but what a joke.

#2 — 17 Syllables: Dispatches from Bat Country (The Sleeper’s Sleep)

Have you ever wondered where the phrase “bat country” comes in relation to ridiculous transfer rumors? This is it. The Sleeper’s Sleep wrote some of the best articles to ever appear on this hellsite, and this one from 2012 inspired a meme that continues to this day.

#15 — Saluting our Troopz: An ode to an Arsenal Fan TV legend (Alex Greenberg)

Another from the TSF takeover, this one is great because of the lovingly-created supercut video (made by Alex) of Troopz’ best moments from AFTV. Still worth watching, years later.
