Tottenham Hotspur have issued yet another response to yet another instance of a player seeming to violate social distancing requirements. And yet again, the player involved is Serge Aurier.
And for the second time, Aurier has announced the violation on his public Instagram account. It seems as though this time Serge got a haircut in his home by Justin Carr, a stylist who cuts a lot of hair for Premier League stars.
Getting a haircut isn’t prohibited, but it is when you bring someone from outside your lockdown circle into your home to do it, which is apparently what Serge just did. It’s even stupider when the club just finished a round of coronavirus testing, which apparently all came back negative, and the club is ready to begin small group close-quarters training.
Sure, the odds of Serge ending up with COVID-19 from this are low, but it’s just a ridiculous and unfathomable risk, made even worse by the fact that this is now the third time that he’s been involved in a social distancing violation since this whole thing started. The return of Premier League football is already operating on a knife’s edge, and stuff like this just makes it more likely that the virus ends up in the Premier League player pool. And if Serge keeps doing stuff like this and posting it on social media, you start to wonder what else he’s doing that he’s NOT making public.
Predictably, the club was forced into making a response. “We are investigating the circumstances,” a spokesperson told the Evening Standard, “and will deal with the incident appropriately.”
UGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH.
