Tottenham Hotspur finished their final home match of the season on Sunday with an emphatic 3-0 win over Leicester City. Usually the last home match is an opportunity for the players to express their thanks to the home fans for their outstanding support during the season, and to present end-of-season fan awards, but COVID has meant that there haven’t been fans in the stadium since football restarted in June.
But the show must go on and the supporter awards were presented after the match on Sunday. And all of them — every single one — went to Son Heung-Min.

In a season that saw Harry Kane miss significant time with a hamstring injury, Sonny stepped in to fill the gap both in terms of scoring and leadership. Sonny has scored 18 goals and tallied 13 assists heading into the last match of the season against Crystal Palace, none better than the 90-yard goal he scored against Burnley. You should watch the video clip in that tweet because in it he admits that while that goal required “a lot of luck,” he also sometimes watches that goal before he goes to sleep at night. Which is just adorable. Sonny’s just the best.
Kane may have scored more goals than Sonny, Hugo has been better since the restart, but it’s hard to argue that Sonny has been Tottenham’s best overall player this season. These awards are well deserved and I can’t argue with any of them.
