International football is back, and can’t you just feel the palpable excitement? Gareth Southgate has named his first England squad since the coronavirus shutdown, and Tottenham Hotspur have three players involved — Eric Dier, Harry Kane, and Harry Winks.

It’s an interesting mix of established and younger stars. Notably, Dele Alli was NOT named to Southgate’s team, which on the one hand is perfectly fine because the Nations League is kinda ridiculous and I’d rather Spurs players not get injured while not playing for Tottenham Hotspur, but also raises an eyebrow because Dier’s been slowly sliding down Southgate’s pecking order over time. However, Leicester City’s James Maddison also wasn’t named, so maybe Southgate just wants to give some other dudes like Mason Greenwood and Kalvin Phillips a look.

England play two Nations League matches in early September — at Iceland on September 5, and at Denmark on September 8. Please don’t get anyone injured.
