Yesterday the bombshell news in the world of English women’s football was the announcement in Orlando sports media that Tottenham Hotspur Women completed the coup of the offseason by securing the loan of two-time American World Cup winner and Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan for the entire 2020/21 season.
This morning, the club made it official.

This is an absolute coup for Tottenham Hotspur Women and the WSL. Alex Morgan is arguably the best player on the USA Women’s National Team, and certainly the most famous (with apologies to Megan Rapinoe). Case in point — she has more social media followers right now than Harry Kane. Despite not playing in months, she will instantly make Tottenham better and more competitive, though she’ll take some time to get up to speed.
Last week, Pardeep Cattry and I argued that Tottenham were missing a golden opportunity to secure more NWSL talent on loan and were failing to show ambition. The club just showed that ambition, and I couldn’t be happier.
Morgan is coming off of a maternity leave of absence from football after giving birth to her first child Charlie back in May, and she’s hoping to get minutes in order to be fit in time for the Olympics next year. She tweeted just after the announcement that she’s on her way to North London with her family imminently.
2020 is the year of the unexpected, but next up — the first stamp on Charlie's passport. #COYS @SpursWomen pic.twitter.com/EkGnmFaQBN

Spurs’ next match is tomorrow at Everton, and Morgan absolutely won’t be a part of that game. We probably also aren’t going to see her play in the North London Derby FA Cup quarterfinal coming up on the 26th of September either because she’ll need to complete a 14 day quarantine period before she can train. That means the earliest we might see her in a Tottenham shirt is the October 4 match at Manchester City, the start of a super difficult run of matches for Spurs.
So we’ll need to be patient. But that’s for later. Now WHEN CAN I ORDER MY MORGAN #13 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR KIT? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.
