The Athletic: Tottenham back in for Milik, but there’s a long way to go

Who’s ready for another striker rumor? The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshire dropped another nugget of information on Twitter this morning, suggesting that Spurs have reignited their interest in bringing in Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik, with formal discussions having taken place on Wednesday.

Milik was previously embroiled in the Serie A transfer churn, and at one point it was suggested he was heading to Roma, but that deal has apparently fallen through. Tottenham appears to be his next best option, hence the early negotiations.

Eccleshare’s suggestion that Spurs are looking at a loan is also interesting, implying that they might not afford to — or just don’t want to — pay his transfer fee, which was reportedly as high as £25m. On the other hand, Spurs are also reportedly in negotiations for a £50m transfer for Milan Skriniar, so what do I know? A loan would kick the can down the road a bit on the backup striker situation, but Milik would be a solid addition to Tottenham’s roster. He’s a quality player, more of a true rotation option with Harry Kane, instead of a pure backup.

There’s a long way to go yet by the sound of it, but if you were in the pro-Milik camp this will probably give you something to chew on over the next few days.
