Tottenham Hotspur still have five matches remaining in their Premier League season, but according to Alasdair Gold Spurs fans probably won’t be waiting that long to find out who their new permanent manager will be. The Football.London journalist and Tottenham beat writer tweeted today that the club is hoping to make an announcement about their next permanent appointment within the next three weeks.
Understand Spurs are aiming to announce their next manager before the end of this season. So just over three weeks to get that done and dusted.

That’s good on a number of different levels! First, it implies that the search for Spurs’ next manager is already well and truly underway and probably has been since before Jose Mourinho was fired. Second, it means that Spurs are ready to hit the ground running with the new guy as soon as the season ends, which should maximize the time available to establish the new order of things.
It also maximizes the time to establish, identify, and plan for this summer’s transfer window. Whoever’s coming in is going to have a not-insignificant rebuild ahead of them, and probably without a whole lot of funding available to them without proceeds from player sales. The transfer window strategy is almost certainly going to be impacted by the new manager’s preferred tactical system and plans for next season.
So this is all very exciting, and it sounds like a good plan. Based on what we know of the managers that are being looked at, we also now have a decent idea of who might be coming in. I guess we better get cracking on more Daniel Levy’s Imaginary Shortlist articles, huh?
