My favorite band, and other stuff

Happy Tuesday, Hoddlers! Pardeep is taking a well-deserved break from the site this week, something for which I strongly encouraged her to do. After a long, LONG (long long LONG long) season that feels like it just merged directly with the previous one, it’s important that we all take time to disconnect now and then, even from things we enjoy. At some point I’ll be taking a break too. But not quite yet.

I’m not a very good rambler (it’s why I have other people write this column) so whenever I cover for the Hoddle I like to bring back a feature originated by Ed F. from years ago — the Song of the Day.

One of my favorites bands right now is Lord Huron, and they just released a new album, “Long Lost,” on Friday. Lord Huron is a bit hard to describe, but “expansive folk rock” comes as close as anything, I guess. I’m in love with this album — the vibe answers the question “What if a 1970s honky-tonk music bar, but in space with a TARDIS?”

Anyway, here’s the video for their first single off the new album. It slaps.

And now the news...

Clint Dempsey is joining the crew in the CBS studio for their coverage of the CONCACAF Nations League this summer.

Spain released its full squad for the 2020 EUROs this summer, and there’s not a single player from Real Madrid on it.

All For XI, SB Nation’s women’s soccer blog, is looking for a new Managing Editor. Is that you?

Pep Guardiola was voted Premier League Manager of the Year by the League Manager’s Association.

Two Liverpool Women players say the club offered, and then retracted contract offers, leaving them adrift.

Jack Sullivan, the 21-year old Chairman of West Ham Women who was gifted the club by his father David Sullivan when he was 17, has stepped down.
