OUI! OUI! VIVE LE LIBÉRATION!

According to French daily newspaper Libération, Mauricio Pochettino has asked Paris Saint-Germain to be released from his contract.

OUI!

The full report is behind a paywall but from the little we can see, Pochettino has asked Sporting Director Leonardo and PSG president Nasser al-Khelaïfi to be released from his contract, which initially ran to the end of 2022, but has since reportedly been extended to the end of the 2022-23 season.

Now, there’s nothing in the brief excerpt that states specifically that he’s coming to Tottenham Hotspur, but come on — now that Real Madrid has hired Carlo Ancelotti, where else is he going to go? Everton?

There’s probably a small chance that this could be a power play from Pochettino to get Leonardo, with whom he has had a contentious relationship, out of the picture and give himself some more power, but that feels like a bit of a galaxy brain take at this stage. There’s also a chance that PSG could tell Poch to go pound sand, but that also doesn’t seem too likely, as PSG are made from money and Zinedine Zidane is, like, right there.

Liberátion is a center-left newspaper in France that was founded by Jean-Paul Sartre. I had no idea it did football coverage or sports coverage of any kind, so it might be wise to be a touch skeptical and keep your powder dry until we get some corroboration from a major and reliable source.

Nobody move!

EDIT: Alasdair Gold, who is supposed to be on vacation, has broken his silence as well. He’s a bit cagier than Libération, but if if Gold’s tweeting it, that probably means that it’s being leaked from the club in some manner.
