It was by no means a landslide victory, but England secured an important three points against Croatia to start its Euro 2020 campaign. Raheem Sterling, a player oft maligned by national criticism, scored the lone goal in the 1-0 win that put the Three Lions atop Group D with the Czech Republic after the first round.

Up next is Scotland, a match that will have the eyes of much of Europe. The continent’s oldest international rivalry will take center stage on Friday, being played for the first time since the 2018 World Cup qualifying cycle. The talent gap is clear, but there will be no lack of intensity from either side.

Though England came away successful last weekend, there is definite room for improvement. Tottenham Hotspur’s lone representative was a little reserved against Croatia, so Harry Kane will look to be more involved in the build up against the Scots. Another three points would set the squad up well for the knockout round and the possibility of something special.
