Oliver Skipp’s had a heck of a season. The 20 year old Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate and defensive midfielder spent the season on loan at Championship side Norwich City, and was a lock-down starter almost from the very beginning of the campaign, helping the Canaries roll to the Championship title and promotion to the Premier League.
Now, he’s being rewarded. As announced by Tottenham’s official website, Skippy was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Season for 2020-21, one of six Norwich players to earn that distinction.
PFA Championship Team of the Season
- Tim Krul – Norwich City
- Max Aarons – Norwich City
- Ethan Pinnock – Brentford
- Grant Hanley – Norwich City
- Rico Henry – Brentford
- Emiliano Buendia – Norwich City
- Michael Olise – Reading
- Oliver Skipp – Norwich City
- Adam Armstrong - Blackburn Rovers
- Ivan Toney – Brentford
- Teemu Pukki – Norwich City
Going into this season, I think we all just hoped that Skippy would get some decent minutes for what looked like a decent Championship side. This goes well, WELL beyond that and shows that he could very well have a big future for Spurs going forward. As we’ve said before it’s always good not to get too excited as the leap from the Championship to the Premier League is pretty huge, but it’s still a wonderful honor and well deserved.
Skipp injuried his ankle in the match that clinched the Championship title for Norwich and will be out recuperating until probably just before preseason. Hopefully he bounces back quickly, so whoever the new manager is can make a decision on whether he’ll be a part of Spurs’ first team plans or will head out on loan again next year.
