Don’t look now, but the start of the new season is right around the corner.
Tottenham Hotspur continue to prep for that opening match against champions Manchester City, and while we’re seeing positive movement in the transfer market and good prep in the squad, one face that’s been missing is left fullback Ryan Sessegnon.
According to our old friend Alasdair Gold, Sessegnon has been dealing with a hamstring issue and is set to be back soon.
Ryan Sessegnon is touch and go to be fit for Tottenham’s opening match of the Premier League after a minor hamstring injury but his future under Nuno Espirito Santo looks to be bright, football.london understands.
The 21-year-old is looking to make his mark at Spurs following a successful loan season in the Bundesliga at Hoffenheim.
The article is worth the quick read as it seems Nuno Espirito Santo and his coaching staff are quite high on Sessegnon. This makes sense, given that Nuno tried to buy him from Fulham before he ultimately ended up at Spurs.
Left fullback is going to be an interesting situation for the season. The expectation is that Spurs will play with three at the back, meaning the wingbacks can push high in attack. Sergio Reguilon and Sessegnon are expected to get a lot of the minutes while Ben Davies will be in the mix, though he can also slot into the left centerback position as he plays with the Wales National Team.
Sessegnon, as Gold stated, had a successful time in Germany and the club are still very high on him. If he enters the fold and plays as well as he did, Spurs are in great shape on the left flank. We’re still expecting growing pains with the new formation and tactics, but you have to have the talent first before you can make the system work.
