Well, it’s official. Harry Kane is now back in full training at Tottenham Hotspur, according to multiple sources including Sky Sports News.
BREAKING: Harry Kane is training with Tottenham's first team this morning for the first time since returning from his holiday.— Sky Sports News (@SkySportsNews) August 17, 2021
Sky reports that while the rest of the first team took a day off on Monday after Sunday’s 1-0 win over Manchester City at White Hart Lane, Kane worked individually. He joined his (current) teammates for full training this morning for the first time.
It’s curious, as I thought he was eligible for full training last Thursday after passing his return to action COVID test, but that clearly wasn’t the case. It might help to explain though why Nuno Espirito Santo opted not to include Kane in Sunday’s match-day squad (other than, y’know, the obvious reason) — if he hadn’t done more than drill with the first team ahead of that match it wouldn’t make much sense for him to slot into a side with new tactics and expectations, no matter how good he is.
Interestingly, we haven’t heard a peep about Kane from any official Tottenham source — he hasn’t appeared on any of Spurs’ social media channels, and the club has been very deliberate about not including him on any promotional materials. I don’t know how much we can actually read from this apart from the club just wanting to avoid any awkwardness while the transfer saga rumbles on, but it is notable.
Time’s running out for Kane to complete his desired move to City. Or, to put it another way, time is running out for one of the richest clubs in world football to actually make a worthy damn bid that doesn’t insult our collective intelligence.
