Yesterday I tried to break down the situation between Tottenham Hotspur and 18-year old Barcelona midfield starlet Ilaix Moriba. I won’t go through the whole scenario again — you can read about it here — but suffice it to say that ultimately it boiled down to the player choosing between Tottenham and RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Moriba has chosen. And in my opinion, has chosen... poorly.

It’s impossible to know or say whether this is Moriba making the choice or if it’s his agents, who reportedly had a lucrative deal in place with Leipzig for the summer of 2022, making the choice for him. Nor do we know whether Leipzig met Spurs’ accepted bid with Barcelona or if Moriba’s just gonna not play for a year before making a move.

I guess we’ll find out eventually, but the end result is the same — barring a sudden turnaround it doesn’t appear likely that Moriba will be wearing a Spurs shirt after Tuesday. And that’s a bummer.

HOWEVER, there’s another Barcelona rumor that’s already starting to buzz. There are other reports, including in the Telegraph, that suggest Fabio Paratici is targeting 22-year old Barca right back Emerson Royal.

Emerson signed for Barca in 2019 but spent all of last season on loan at Real Betis. Barca apparently rejected an initial offer from Spurs that involved Serge Aurier going the other way, but I’ve also seen reports that they could offer up to €30m for him before the close of the window. Something to keep an eye on as we hurtle towards Tuesday and deadline day.
