If you were looking for positive transfer deadline day news, well then don’t go read Alasdair Gold. The football.london Tottenham Hotspur beat writer gave a rather tepid assessment of Spurs’ future transfer dealings on this, the last day of the summer window by suggesting that not only are Spurs not really looking for another striker option today, but that the reported moves for Wolves midfielders Adama Traore and Ruben Neves are also unlikely.
You’d have to think that this probably has a lot to do with Tottenham’s ability (or lack thereof) to shift some of their deadweight players this summer. The futures of players like Serge Aurier, Matt Doherty, and Harry Winks remain unclear, and Tanguy Ndombele is also likely to stay at the club past the close of the window. That means Spurs probably have less money to spend.
Combine that with the fact that Wolves don’t want to sell Traore in particular and would ask something close to £50m for his signature, and that doesn’t bode well for getting anything else past Emerson Royal across the line.
Anything can happen in the transfer window — remember Rafel van der Vaart? — but if it does it’ll be a surprise. Is this more or less it for Spurs on deadline day?
