The Ornacle has spoken and unfortunately it’s not good news for Spurs. David Ornstein of the Athletic recently tweeted that Lyon midfielder and Tottenham Hotspur target Houssem Aouar is set to stay and will not join Spurs or Arsenal, the two main clubs to whom he was linked.
Houssem Aouar stays at Lyon. Linked with Arsenal, Tottenham & today Real Madrid — but understand 23yo France international attacking midfielder will be remaining at Ligue 1 club for now. Under contract to #Lyon until 2023 @TheAthleticUK #AFC #THFC #RMFC https://t.co/MfniPdhVON

If you’re an Aouar stan like I am this is disappointing news. It does however make a certain amount of sense — with both Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks set to stay at Spurs past the close of the window it’s hard to make a case that Tottenham should be adding another central midfielder, even if Aouar would be a fantastic fit (and also a buddy to Tanguy).
I know nobody likes stories like this one that are basically “Here’s a thing that is NOT happening” but that’s where we are at the moment. Aouar was one of the deals I was hoping to get over the line, but this lends further credence to the idea that maybe a part from a couple of outgoings, Spurs’ window is pretty much done.
At least I haven’t been tearing my hair out writing articles today.
