In any given transfer window, there’s always a few academy players or recent graduates who transfer out of the club for various reasons. Tottenham Hotspur announced one of those today as 20-year old academy graduate Jubril Okedina is confirmed as heading to Cambridge United on a permanent transfer.
We have reached agreement with @CambridgeUtdFC for the permanent transfer of Jubril Okedina.— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) August 5, 2021
We wish Jubril all the best for the future.
This is a little bit of a surprise as there were no indications ahead of time that Jubril was headed for the exit door. On the other hand, Okedina is 20 years old and well behind Tottenham’s first team defenders, even some of the more recent academy grads. It has looked like his future lay away from Spurs, which isn’t always a bad thing.
Okedina spent the second half of last season at Cambridge in League 2 where he made 15 appearances, so a return to that club makes a great deal of sense, especially if he has a place and was happy there. Cambridge also promoted to League 1, so it would also functionally serve as a step up in his development. I hope he continues to have a solid career as a professional footballer, and who knows — maybe we’ll see him again someday.
