A strong start has its advantages!

Nuno Espirito Santo has Tottenham Hotspur off to a flying start in the Premier League, and both he and Eric Dier are getting recognized for it. Today the Premier League shortlisted Nuno for August Premier League Manager of the Month, and Dier for August Player of the Month.

If you take your team to an undefeated Premier League record over the course of a month, quite often the reward is a Manager of the Month nomination, and that’s the case here. Spurs took nine points from nine in the opening matches of the season, and sit atop the table going into the first international break. Nuno is joined by Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, West Ham’s David Moyes, and Everton’s Rafa Benitez on the shortlist.

Dier’s nomination is a bit of a surprise — if we’re going to recognize a Spurs central defender I would’ve chosen Davinson Sanchez — but he has put in three markedly better defensive performances this season than he did last year, and Spurs have yet to concede a goal this season. His competition for Player of the Month are West Ham’s Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma, Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso, Everton’s Demarai Gray, and Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood.
