Hello, everyone!

This is a very nice thing that happened yesterday.

Ramble of the Day

It’s been at least five minutes since I asked a question about food, so it’s time for another: Someone’s visiting the area you’re from and wants a food recommendation that is specific to that area. What are you recommending?

Define “area you’re from” however you like — the place you currently live, the place you grew up, some other place in between that you feel meets your personal definition. I’m not picky. I just want to know about great local foods.

As a lifelong New Yorker, three things pop to mind: a bagel, a slice of pizza, and a black and white cookie. My argument for all three is the same: They’re easily accessible foods in many parts of the world (especially if you’re talking any type of cookie), but there’s a reasonable argument the New York version of them is special and unmatched. These are foods baked into the culture of New York, and the biggest plus is that they remain easy to access. I’d argue you need a few easy meals on any trip, because it can be hard to scout and plan every trip to an eatery when in a foreign place. This covers breakfast and a lunch or dinner easily, plus a snack or dessert.

tl;dr: What are the foods you’d recommend if someone was visiting the area you’re from? For me, I’d recommend New York’s bagels, pizza, and black and white cookies.
