While we haven’t officially opened the present, it sure appears Christmas has come early for Tottenham Hotspur Women. According to Sky Sports reporter Anton Toloui, Spurs have secured the free agent signing of Australia international defender Charli Grant when the January transfer window opens! She joins as a free agent after leaving Damallsvenskan side Vittsjo.

Lots of WSL interest but #THFC is where she’ll be playing from January. pic.twitter.com/xSKIe8qR0T
I wrote on Charli Grant a little bit when this rumor first emerged back in November. Grant is 22, is a positionally flexible fullback, and has recently broken into the Australia first team. Her signing fills one of Spurs manager Robert Vilahamn’s needs for another attacking fullback to play opposite of Ashleigh Neville — currently the only other natural fullback on the squad is Asmita Ale, and Vilahamn has lately preferred playing midfielder Angharad James out of position at right back.
This is an incredibly exciting signing. Charli was wanted by a bunch of top clubs, as she’s a young player on the rise in the game. She should add a lot to a Spurs side that just knocked off Arsenal for the first time ever and is working hard to establish themselves as a contender for top four in the WSL. Grant would be the second addition to the squad in the January window; the club already announced the signing of China international midfielder Wang Shuang.
Now we just wait for the club to make the announcement officially.
