It’s done! Pape Matar Sarr has signed a massive new contract at Tottenham Hotspur before jetting off to Qatar for the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal. His new deal is a long one, lasting until June 2030!
We are delighted to announce that @papematarsarr15 has signed a new contract with the Club that will run until 2030!— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) January 2, 2024
This new deal comes on the heels of a similar deal with a similar scope for Italian fullback Destiny Udogie. It was announced as nearly complete last week by multiple football journalists in the UK and elsewhere, but it’s good to see him actually putting pen to paper.
Sarr and Udogie represent a youth movement at Tottenham Hotspur and it’s fantastic to get long-term commitments from them as they’ll be centerpieces under Ange Postecoglou for years. For Sarr, this new deals represents a reward for some outstanding play this season in Spurs’ midfield — he’s become one of the first names on the team sheet under Postecoglou and has yet to hit his ceiling. He’ll only get better, and he’ll do that in a Spurs shirt.
No word on his wages, but I’d expect it to be something along the lines of £75k/wk, the same as Udogie’s new contract. That keeps Sarr happy and also gives Spurs some flexibility to offer a new contract down the road if need be.
Sarr’s heading to AFCON with Senegal so we may not see him play for a while, but regardless — this is great news! Let’s celebrate!
