The window has slammed shut.

It’s over! Another transfer window deadline day has come and now gone. This one was quieter than many in the past for Tottenham Hotspur, mostly because Spurs did most of their business well in advance. The only drama involved a potential deal for Milan Skriniar falling apart, and a couple of outgoing players.

This was also an unusually active window for Spurs, with a number of outgoings and incomings. Below you’ll find a summary of all of Tottenham’s transfer moves. We’ll be back later on with some analysis of the window in general.

It’s looking like Spurs aren’t bringing in a CB today.

After the collapse of the Milan Skriniar earlier today, it looked like if Tottenham Hotspur were going to bring in an experienced central defender it was most likely going to be Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea.

Scratch that one off the list too! The Athletic is now reporting via their transfer tracker that Rudiger is planning to stay at Stamford Bridge, at least until January, but that there were positive talks with Spurs and that Chelsea were “in principle” okay with him heading to Tottenham on loan.

Here’s the bit that I love from that report:

While initially open to the move, it is understood that Rudiger felt wary of the potential fall out from supporters for playing for one of Chelsea’s biggest rivals. The 27-year-old decided that he would be better served attempting to fight his way back into the Chelsea starting XI via a twelve-month stint abroad instead.

YA THINK?

At this point it doesn’t look like Spurs are going to make any additional incoming signings today. The window closes in just over an hour, and while there’s still negotiations over Swansea’s Joe Rodan, that’s one that might wait until the close of the EFL window, which shuts on October 16.

Well, wouldn’t THAT be something?

Ready for a quick hit transfer rumor? Here’s one. News is emerging that Tottenham Hotspur keeper Paulo Gazzaniga could be the subject of a late loan bid from Everton.

That’s courtesy of the Liverpool Echo, though other outlets are starting to pick up on this possibility as well. “Gazinga” has slipped all the way down to the third keeper slot this season after Spurs brought in Joe Hart on a free transfer (which is ironic in its own right). Gazzaniga’s situation is likewise compounded by the fact that Tottenham are over their limit of foreign players. That makes players like Gazzaniga and others on the fringe of the squad somewhat expendable.

I really don’t know just what about Gazzaniga appeals to Everton, except that he’s staggeringly handsome and also their current starting keeper Jordan Pickford has been nothing short of hilarious thus far this season (except when he was playing against Tottenham, of course). It would be somewhat funny if Tottenham’s third keeper ends up first choice on loan at Everton, but who knows. Everton already have Joao Virginia and Jonas Lossl on their roster.

Deadline day, y’all!

He’s young, talented, and 6’4”. Sounds like a Mourinho CB.

The Milan Srkiniar deal may be dead, but that doesn’t mean that Tottenham Hotspur aren’t still looking at bringing in another central defender before the end of the window. The Athletic’s transfer tracker is now saying that Spurs are considering a last-minute bid for 22-year old Swansea CB Joe Rodon.

I can’t say I’ve watched a whole lot of Swansea over the past year or so, but Rodon is highly thought of as an up and coming young defender. He’s 6’4”, which already fits the profile of the kind of big dude that Jose Mourinho likes in a CB. The Athletic calls him “composed on the ball and dominant in the air,” which sounds pretty good to me. Plus he’s young, and buying pre-peak players is usually a gamble worth taking, especially since Spurs have an aging and possibly post-peak Toby Alderweireld still in their squad, and Eric Dier isn’t getting any younger.

One interesting tidbit is that as a Welshman and product of Swansea’s academy, Rodon would be in a similar situation as Ben Davies in that he’d be considered “homegrown” for purposes of the Premier League but a foreign player for European tournament purposes. There’s been talk of changing that ridiculous contrast, but I’m not sure any progress has made since COVID-19.

A quick Google of Rodon says there’s a lot to like about him, but he wouldn’t come cheap for a young player, probably £18m or so according to The Athletic. Spurs are said to want to bring in a more experienced CB yet today, but if that doesn’t happen Spurs have until October 16 when the EFL window closes to bring in Rodon or someone similar as a backup plan.

The longest tenured member of the club is “relaxed” about his future.

Danny Rose, Tottenham Hotspur’s longest tenured first team player, didn’t even receive a number this fall. His previous number 3 shirt was given to new left back signing Sergio Reguilon. He has reportedly been training with the U23s, his contract expires in June, and he is almost certainly leaving the club at some point after falling out with Jose Mourinho.

But it might not be today! The Athletic (£) is reporting that Rose is “relaxed” about his future, and seems fine with the possibility of potentially leaving in January if a last minute buyer can’t be found for him today. That may be the case, since it seems like most credible links for Rose dried up a couple of weeks ago. There’s also the chance that he may just see out the rest of his contract and leave on a free next June.

I know that Rose is a divisive figure among the Tottenham fanbase due to [waves hands at everything] but I love the guy and just think it’s sad that it’s come to this for a guy who gave us one of the most memorable moments in Tottenham history on his Premier League debut. I wish it were different, but instead it seems more likely that we’re going to shove Rose in the doghouse and pretend he’s not there until he’s able to walk away.

In that same report, The Athletic notes that keeper Paulo Gazzaniga could also leave on loan today (but that the reports of him replacing Adrian at Liverpool are lol not happening), and that Cameron Carter-Vickers could also be sold.

Update: Maybe there’s a late loan to Porto in the works? That’d be weird... but okay.

WELP.

If Tottenham Hotspur are going to sign a new central defender today, it’s not going to be Milan Skriniar. Tottenham beat writer and football.london journalist Alasdair Gold has pretty much ruled that move out, suggesting the deal is now dead after a protracted transfer saga, and saying Spurs have moved on to other targets.

As to who those other targets are, it’s anyone’s guess. Or maybe it’s nobody. Spurs have already been linked with Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger — more on that later. A report in The Athletic transfer tracker suggested that Spurs kicked the tires on Manchester City defender John Stones but that doesn’t seem likely either. A move for South Korean defender Kim Min-Jae appears unrealistic at this time, though Spurs may revisit that in January.

It’s altogether quite possible that Spurs may not bring in another player at all today unless something pops up last minute. Which is possible! But barring a breakthrough, it sure looks like Skriniar is staying put.

Is this true? Probably not! But it’s AWESOME.

By way of preface, on Deadline Day we tend to... uh, temporarily suspend our normally rigorous sense of disbelief about most transfer rumors. We do this for a couple of reasons — 1) because wild stuff can happen and 2) because it’s just so gosh darn FUN.

Take this one. Football Insider is reporting today that Tottenham Hotspur has been offered an opportunity to re-sign none other than Christian Eriksen on loan for the remainder of the season. This rumor is incredible and likely isn’t accurate. I am HERE for it.

The Christian Eriksen transfer saga was one of the biggest stories of last season and was told not only through numerous articles but was also touched upon in the Amazon “All Or Nothing” documentary that came out this summer. Now, if this story is to be believed (and probably you shouldn’t do so) Eriksen has been deemed a high price failure, with Inter needing to offload him to reduce their wage bill in a COVID-19 stretched season.

Set aside for a second the actual details of this rumor and the fact that Football Insider doesn’t have the best record at breaking actual news — having Eriksen back would be, ummmmmmmm, awkward considering the nature that he left the club, and no more so than for the player himself who wanted that last big transfer that just never came. I have no doubt believing that Daniel Levy would take him back, and I also have no doubt that he’d be an asset to this Spurs team like he was before, though where his minutes would come from is an open question with Tanguy Ndombele and Gio Lo Celso both major contributors and Dele Alli being a person who still exists. But he’d have to come back with his tail between his legs and eat a TON of crow were he to do so.

Not to mention that he’s undoubtedly on much higher wages than he was at Spurs, and Tottenham would be on the hook for most, if not all, of them.

I don’t see this happening. However, I absolutely love that this is a rumor. Give me more of these! I love Deadline Day! Let’s gooooooo.

The extinct prehistoric lizard was recently cut from Arsenal due to COVID-19 related cost-saving measures.

Tottenham Hotspur are known for leaving business to the very last minute of a transfer window, and for making shock bids that come out of left field. Today, they may have outdone themselves. Reports are emerging that Spurs have made an audacious bid for former Arsenal mascot and current free agent dinosaur Gunnersaurus.

Hatched from an egg discovered under Highbury in 1993, the green, fuzzy and extinct prehistoric lizard was considered a friend to wayward and misguided North London children for nearly 30 years. He was unceremoniously cut adrift from Tottenham’s north London rivals recently in a COVID-19 related cost-cutting measure, according to The Athletic, with the plush, genetically modified dino deemed “no longer necessary.”

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, never one to pass up a good bargain, is said to have beat back interest from a number of international clubs for Gunnersaurus’ signature, but is facing a strong bid from the British Museum who are hoping the dino could be a long-term replacement for museum captain Dippy. There are unconfirmed reports that Gunnersaurus has also been offered a role with Arsenal Fan TV.

It’s not clear what role Levy would have in mind for Gunnersaurus, distantly (and questionably) related to Tottenham’s avian mascot Chirpy, but some have speculated that he would be a perfect candidate for the role of fromaggier long-rumored Cheese Room in Spurs’ new stadium, which was itself cut for financial reasons, or as a boot room attendant. Rumors that Gunnersaurus would be bronzed and positioned, middle finger outstretched and facing the Emirates, outside Spurs’ stadium have been hotly denied.

Gunnersaurus is said to be considering his options
