Kyle Naughton suffered a nasty ankle injury in Tottenham Hotspur's 1-0 win over Southampton and now there are fears that he could miss up to three months. The Standard is speculating that the defender may not play again until 2015.
Naughton was injured on a tackle by Ryan Bertrand and was in a lot of pain as he left the pitch. He reportedly left the stadium in a protective boot and on crutches, while the club's only update was that he would undergo a scan on Monday. Whether he did or not is still unclear as Spurs have not released any further information and there is no clear timetable for them to do so, although odds are that they will give some sort of update on Tuesday.
Right now, the Standard's report appears to be nothing more than guessing, but in this case, it looks pretty reasonable. Everyone watching could tell that Naughton suffered more than a simple knock.
It's pretty remarkable that a serious injury to Naughton is a pretty big blow for Spurs. It was only two months ago that many questioned his future at the club, but he has really taken a step forward this season and played the best football of his life. Especially with Kyle Walker out and no timetable set for his return, Naughton has been immense and any time he misses through injury is tough loss for Tottenham.
