For fans who were hoping Andros Townsend would get another England runout this week, sparking a potential uptick in form for Tottenham Hotspur, we're afraid we've got some bad news. Townsend picked up a knock on his ankle during England training this week, and has returned to Tottenham for treatment. He'll play no part in their games this international break.
It's been a rough season for Townsend, who has failed to improve on last season's inconsistent, but occasionally encouraging performances. He's had a couple of good outings in the Europa League, mostly while playing on the left wing, but he continues to be wasteful when played anywhere else.
While a Townsend injury won't hurt Tottenham in the short term, all injuries suck and depth is always a good thing. Tottenham don't have a lot of natural wingers in their squad and Townsend is one of the few. Hopefully this is nothing long-term.
