Spurs head to Greece for Europa League without four senior teamers

Stu Forster

Emmanuel Adebayor, Younes Kaboul, Kyle Naughton and Aaron Lennon were all left in London for Tottenham Hotspur's Europa League clash against Asteras Tripolis. The four join the injured Kyle Walker and Nabil Bentaleb in not making the trip.

Hugo Lloris is suspended for the match, which means that Michel Vorm will start. Brad Fridel, seemingly already retired, is also not in Greece, which means there is not a senior team backup for Vorm so Spurs are calling upon Luke McGee. The 19-year-old was with the first team for their U.S. and Canada preseason tour and played against the Chicago Fire.

Spurs need a win in Greece because, despite their being undefeated, they are level atop the group and only one point ahead of Asteras. They also have to finish the group stage with a match at Besiktas, which will be tough, and they will want to have sealed advancement before that.

With Adebayor, Kaboul and Lennon not in the team, it looks like Harry Kane will start again. That makes it less likely he starts on the weekend in the league, which won't make anyone happy. Federico Fazio also figures to step into the starting XI, and Andros Townsend should also see some time.
