Tottenham Hotspur played a game on Thursday, and they lost, and now they're out of Europa League. Borussia Dortmund were better than them once again, winning 2-1 on the night and 5-1 on aggregate.
To some confusion, Mauricio Pochettino decided to play close to a first team. Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele all got rested, but other first choice players got the nod despite Spurs' failure to secure an away goal in Dortmund.
Very little positive happened for Spurs in the first half. Not long after Ben Davies had to come off injured, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored an absolute stunner, erasing any chance Spurs had of mounting a comeback. He went on to score another in the second half. Spurs did very few good things, but this Son Hueng-Min goal was certainly one of them.
It's disappointing to be out of Europa League. This is a real trophy, after all, and a good team is going to win it. But Spurs can now zero in on one thing -- the league title. They're second, and they might need to win seven of their remaining eight games to top Leicester. Time to get to work.
