Benjamin Stambouli is joining Tottenham Hotspur. Sky Sports News said that the player agreed to personal terms with the player and he passed his medical, sealing his move from Montpellier.
MHSC confirmed a few days ago that they had accepted Spurs' bid for the French midfielder, so all that was left was personal terms and a medical. Nobody seemed to worried about that being handled, but it took a few days to sort out. Now they have and Spurs will announce the signing before long.
With Sandro likely on his way out of Tottenham, the club needed another defensive midfielder. Etienne Capoue has emerged as the first choice option, but he was also the only option aside from Sandro. Now Stambouli is also in the mix and he's a similar player to Capoue so it will be easy to play either and not worry about having to change the rest of the team too much.
Like Capoue, Stambouli is also capable of playing centerback, which could come in handy. Spurs have already sold Michael Dawson and could sell Vlad Chiriches or Younes Kaboul before the deadline. That would leave the team with four centerbacks so odds are that at some point, another player will have to play there in a pinch. Stambouli can be that player.
