The Spurs exodus on deadline day continues after Tottenham Hotspur announced that Argentinian center back Federico Fazio has left the club to play for La Liga club Sevilla on loan until the end of the season. Spurs had purchased Fazio from Sevilla in the summer of 2014 for £7m.

Just like every other outgoing move this window, this move is anything but a surprise. Fazio has been linked with a move back to Sevilla for months now after it became clear that he had fallen out of favor with Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino. Fazio had played a total of one match – the disastrous 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the League Cup earlier in the fall – and had made only five bench appearances all season.

We don't know much about the details of the loan, but I would be shocked if it didn't include an option to buy at the end of the season. It's clear that Fazio will never play for Tottenham again, so a loan-to-buy makes sense for both Sevilla and for Spurs: Sevilla will likely get a player back that performed very well for them, and Spurs get an unwanted defender off their books.
