Ajax and Colombia center back Davinson Sanchez could be heading to Tottenham Hotspur, if a report from RAC Radio in Catalonia is to be believed. It’s not the best of sources, but thanks to the lack of summer signings, any rumors of bids send Spurs fans into a frenzy.

Reputable English and Dutch outlets aren’t running with the rumor yet, so you shouldn’t get your hopes up yet, but Gerard Romero uses some definitive language here — he says that Sanchez is going to be a Tottenham player, and that Spurs will pay €35 million.

Sanchez is a 21-year-old center back who was first choice for Ajax during their run to the Europa League final last season, playing 43 matches in all competitions. It was Sanchez’s first season in European football, but he was named Ajax’s player of the season. His performances for Ajax also got him into the Colombia setup, and he made his debut for their senior national team in 2016.

While Sanchez certainly has the size, pace and composure on the ball to make it as a center back at a top club, his current lack of experience makes this deal a bit of a gamble. But if Sanchez can improve on how he played for Ajax last season, €35 million could prove to be a bargain.

Sanchez is also at the age and experience level that makes sense for Spurs — he has enough of a track record for Spurs to believe that he could be a reliable backup, but he’s young enough that he won’t expect to be first choice right away. It also makes sense for Spurs to plan for the future at center back — Toby Alderweireld is 28 and Jan Vertonghen is 30.

Despite Romero’s direct language, we’re still considering this a wild rumor for now. But here, have a YouTube video that gets you excited about this potential signing.
